The CW has found its main character’s best friend.

Candice Patton joins the pilot in the potential series regular role of Iris West, a CW representative told TheWrap.

Iris a grad student who is also Barry Allen AKA The Flash’s (Grant Gustin) quick-witted, fast-talking best friend.

Patton played Tori on BET’s “The Game.” Her TV credits also include appearances on “Rizzoli & Isles,” “CSI: Miami,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

In addition to Gustin, Patton joins already announced castmembers Jesse L. Martin, Rick Cosnett and Danielle Panabaker.

Initially the plan was to introduce the potential series as a backdoor pilot on the network’s hit superhero series “Arrow,” but after two episodes of “Arrow” featuring the character were filmed, the network decided to give it a separate pilot.

The project previously described Barry as a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. A comic book fan boy, Barry is obsessed with Arrow (Stephen Amell) unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante.

Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter are executive producing the “Flash” pilot, with Berlanti and Kreisberg writing along with Geoff Johns (“Arrow,” “Smallville”). Melissa Kellner Berman will co-executive produce the project.
