Present-day isn’t the only era when Americans have been xenophobic, and Nat Geo’s “Genius” is here to hold up the mirror of history repeating itself.
The cable channel’s first scripted series is already up to Episode 8, which will air Tuesday night. During that hour, Einstein (Geoffrey Rush) and Elsa (Emily Watson) must get through a tense interview with the U.S. Consul General in Berlin, who interrogates the physicist at the behest of FBI Chief J. Edgar Hoover, who was convinced that Einstein was a German spy.
At the very least, they figured dude was a Communist. Naturally, the smarty-pants saw through the shenanigans.
