‘Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce’ Star Lisa Edelstein on Season 2 Drama: ‘Abby Is the Problem’

“She’s meeting all of her character defects at once, and she’s being kicked in the butt by them all,” Edelstein tells TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell

Abby has been having a rough go of it in Season 2 of “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce,” and according to star Lisa Edelstein, that’s not about to change anytime soon.

“She’s meeting all of her character defects at once, and she’s being kicked in the butt by them all,” Edelstein, who plays Abby on the Bravo drama, told TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell.

“Abby’s sort of meeting herself,” she continued. “When she was getting divorced, when she was trying to figure out whether that marriage was worth saving, and when she was just back into the dating world, there was a lot of outside things that she could point to as the problem. But this season, Abby is the problem.”

Edelstein also says that the show’s other characters are facing their own problems heading into Delia’s wedding and the last two episodes of the season.

“By the time this wedding happens, everyone’s really in the middle of something intense,” she said.

The actress praised the show and series creator Marti Noxon for walking the line between it being an “aspirational show” and still being firmly grounded in reality.

“There are a lot of great stories like that that are pulled from true life,” she said. “Because true life is as ridiculous as anything you could come up with a lot of the time.”

Edelstein continued, “It maintains a really true, honest, raw core while still being really funny and fun.”

“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on Bravo.
