ABC has given a series order to a spinoff of “The Goldbergs” led by Tim Meadows as Principal Glascott.

Set in the ’90s, the untitled series will follow the teachers of William Penn Academy – led by Principal Glascott (Meadows), Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen) and Lainey Lewis (AJ Michalka) – who, despite their eccentricities and crazy personal lives, are heroes to their students.

Marc Firek serves as writer on the series, based on a story by Firek and “The Goldbergs” creator Adam F. Goldberg. Goldberg, Firek and Doug Robinson serve as executive producers on the Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios series.

A  spinoff was first ordered last February, with Meadows and Callen attached to star, but was ultimately not picked up to series. The episode aired as a backdoor pilot titled “The Goldbergs: 1990-Something” earlier this year.

“The Goldbergs” has already been renewed through Season 6 at the network, with Season 5 set to conclude on Wednesday, May 15.
