HFPA: ‘Highly Unlikely’ Ricky Gervais Will Be Invited Back as Globes Host

President Phil Berk denies the actor’s claim that he’s been asked to host the Golden Globes for the third time

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association denies Ricky Gervais' claim that he's been asked to host the Golden Globes for the third time — and the HFPA says it isn't likely to happen.

"There is no truth to this rumor. We have not asked him to come back," president Phil Berk said in a statement. "Nice try, Ricky."

While Gervais may have been kidding, the HFPA doesn't seem to be. Asked if Gervais might eventually be asked to return next year, an HFPA insider told TheWrap, "It's highly unlikely. Twice was nice. Let's leave it at that."

Gervais posted on a "Golden Globes Diary" posted on his website that he had been invited back to host a third Globes.

"I don't think I should," he wrote on the site (above). "I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure."

Gervais dropped more than a few jaws with his jokes about Scientology and and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's reputation for voting for undeserving films in exchange for press junkets and trinkets.

The group said he "occasionally went too far," but praised his performance.
