‘Gotham’s’ Erin Richards Reveals Her Character Barbara Is About to Unravel (Video)

“Barbara’s inner-demons start to come to the surface,” Richards tells TheWrap

“Gotham” fans, you’ve been warned: the spunky character of Barbara Kean, played by Erin Richards, is about to go off the deep end.

“From this point onwards it’s a bit of an unraveling,” Richards tells TheWrap about her role on the Fox series, adding, “Barbara’s  inner-demons start to come to the surface.”

Richards, who is originally from Wales added, “She’s a bit of a dark horse… she’s sort of presented as a put-together kind of intelligent strong woman, which she is, but kind of underneath that she’s got lots of hidden secrets.”

Gotham is home to one of the world’s more recognizable superheroes — Batman. But the prequel focuses on the chapter before the arrival of the Dark Knight.

Even without a superhero, “Gotham’s” premiere hit it out of the park. As TheWrap reported earlier, the show became one of Fox’s most successful launches of the season, bringing in more than 22 million viewers across multiple platforms. The network has already upped its order to a full 22 episodes.

But Richards admits the buildup to the series premiere was nothing short of “nerve-racking.”

“We had a really lovely period where the show wasn’t out yet,” Richards said. “When it came close to the release date we all started getting very nervous about what people thought.”

As it turns out she had nothing to worry about. “It came out and everyone was really happy,” said Richards. “Obviously it was huge sense of relief.”

You can watch the interview with Richards in the video above.

“Gotham” airs Mondays on Fox at 8pm ET.
