Production on hit CBS show suspended

A guard was struck and killed by an out-of-control van during filming of "NCIS" Wednesday.

Police said the van's 60-year-old driver suffered a medical condition and hit the security guard, who was 52. He was treated at the scene, in Santa Clarita, Calif., and taken to a hospital, where he died.

Production on the CBS show was suspended.

"Everyone at the network, the studio and NCIS is devastated by the news," CBS and CBS Television Studios said in a statement. "Our hearts grieve for his family and friends for this tragic loss. We are, of course, cooperating with the local authorities in Santa Clarita to help determine what caused this terrible accident."

"With profound sympathy we mourn the tragic passing of our co-worker and friend," the show's producers, cast and crew said in a statement.  "'NCIS' is a family. And, as with any family, we are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones."
