‘Hobbit’ Fans Halt a Fearsome Tram in ‘Lord of the Rings’ Prank

A local train in Poland stands in for the Balrog as a Gandalf stand-in roars, “You shall not pass!”

With “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” about to hit theaters in Poland, some local pranksters got way into the spirit — and the path of an oncoming train.

In this video, which has gone viral, fans of “The Hobbit” in Warsaw re-enacted a scene from J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Fellowship of The Ring.” In it, the wizard Gandalf stands in the way of the monster Balrog and tells him to “go back to the shadow” to buy time for fleeing Frodo Baggins and his companions.

In the video, the local train plays the part of the fearsome Balrog, and a prankster takes on Gandalf’s role, clearing the path for his buddies garbed in Middle Earth duds.

“You shall not pass,” roars the ersatz Gandalf.

Balrog, or in this case the driver of the train, isn’t amused. And kids, don’t try this at home.
