Hulu Nabs ‘Empire’ Exclusive On-Demand Streaming Rights

Deal includes first season and future episodes

“Empire” will be streamed exclusively to Hulu Plus subscribers, the VOD service announced Thursday.

The deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution grants Hulu exclusive subscription VOD rights to Season 1 — which concluded last night and is available starting today — and future episodes, which will be available the day after initial broadcast on FOX and remain available on the service.

“Since its premiere, the series has remained one of the top shows on Hulu and we are ecstatic to be the exclusive streaming home to the biggest show of the year,” Hulu SVP and Head of Content Craig Erwich, said in a statement.

“As interest in the show continues to explode, having a place for people to watch it from the beginning is extremely important to viewers and fans,” Gina Brogi, EVP of Worldwide Pay Television and SVOD for 20th TV Distribution added.

Hulu is owned by Fox in a joint venture with NBC and ABC (Disney).
