It’s a ‘Twilight’ Campout

Two days before the LAFF premiere of “Eclipse,” Twi-hards have turned L.A. Live into a campground

The Los Angeles Film Festival has attracted big crowds for “The Kids Are All Right,” and “Cyrus,” and “Waiting for ‘Superman,’” and “The Tillman Story” and many others.

And then there’s “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”

The third film in the high-grossing, MTV-wowing series doesn’t screen until Thursday night, when its premiere will be held at the (slightly scaled-down) 7,000-seat Nokia Theatre in an event that is affiliated with the festival, if not exactly part of its official programming.  (Festival artistic director David Ansen calls it “festival adjacent.”)

But by Monday night, a tent village had sprung up in the center of L.A. Live, in front of the Nokia.  Its inhabitants aren’t guests at the premiere, but fans who’ve gathered to secure prime spots for gawking at the red carpet on Thursday night – “Twi-hards” who’ve come to worship at the altar of Taylor and Robert and Kristen and crew.

The setup is so orderly and so colorful that some have accused it of being engineered to attract cameras.  If so, consider it a success – because here are some shots of the plaza as of Monday night at about 11 p.m.
