Jason Clarke Takes a Young Abe Lincoln Hunting in ‘The Better Angels’ Sneak Peek (Exclusive Video)

The Terrence Malick-produced drama also stars Diane Kruger and Brit Marling

The life of a young Abraham Lincoln before he became one of America’s favorite presidents included a lot of hunting and being abandoned by adults, based on a new video from black and white biopic “The Better Angels.”

In this exclusive teaser (above), Abe (played by newcomer Braydon Denney) is taken hunting by his cold and distant father Tom (Jason Clarke). They don’t catch much, and Tom is forced to abandon his children and ride off for Kentucky in hopes of finding sustenance other ways.

But the young Lincoln doesn’t quite see it that way.

“The Better Angels” marked the feature directorial debut of A.J. Edwards, a longtime collaborator of director Terrence Malick, who was an executive producer on the project. The director’s influence can certainly be seen and felt in footage already released from the film.

Edwards has worked extensively with Malick over the last decade, first as an editor on “The New World,” then as second-unit director and editor on “The Tree of Life,” “To The Wonder” and the forthcoming “Knight of Cups.”

“The Better Angels” will be released Nov. 7.
