Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘Friends’ Reunion Amasses 13 Million-Plus YouTube Views

Kimmel’s fan-fiction gathering with Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston rates third place in Kimmel’s most-viewed online videos

Jimmy Kimmel’s reunion of “Friends” stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow might have left some viewers scratching their heads, but despite — or perhaps because of — any confusion that the skit caused, it’s certainly racked up plenty of YouTube views.

The reunion, which aired on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last week, accumulated 13,242,624 views on Kimmel’s YouTube channel in its first five days of viewing. That puts the “Friends” reunion in third place among most-viewed videos on Kimmel’s channel, behind only “YouTube Challenge – I Told My Kids I Ate All Their Halloween Candy 2013,” which pulled in more than 19 million views in its first five days, and “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets #7,” which edged out the “Friends” reunion with nearly 13.5 million views.

The skit featured Aniston, Cox and Kudrow acting out “Friends” fan fiction written by Kimmel, with an uncomfortable-seeming Aniston refusing to wear a wig of her iconic “Friends” hairstyle (aka, “The Rachel”).

Aniston’s performance proved to be too authentic for many viewers, who concluded that the “We’re the Millers” actress wasn’t in on the joke. The mistaken impression prompted Kimmel to clarify during a subsequent episode of his late-night show.

“We were clearly acting, right?” Kimmel said during his monologue. “For some reason, maybe half, if not more of the people commenting online, seem to think that was real. I’m not kidding.”
