‘John Wick: Chapter 4’: Keanu Reeves Travels the Globe to Take Down All-New Thugs in First Trailer (Video)

Yeah, we’re thinking he’s back

John Wick is back. And he’s ready to kick your ass.

“John Wick: Chapter 4” doesn’t debut until March 24, 2023, but a brand-new trailer has been unleashed, revealing more about what the super sequel will have in store for audiences next spring. And, wouldn’t you know it, this latest installment features a lot of brutal murder? (Watch it above.)

This time, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is trying to get back into the game, having been excommunicated from the High Table. Of course, that is easier said than done. It appears that he soon finds a new ally in a character named Caine (played by action icon Donnie Yen) as he travels around the globe, killing various thugs.

Other new combatants in the “John Wick” world include Bill Skarsgård as a villainous character known as Marquis and, in unspecified roles, Clancy Brown (sporting a terrific beard), Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada and pop star/actress Rina Sawayama. Returning to the franchise are Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick and Ian McShane.

Behind the scenes, director Chad Stahelski (who has been with the franchise since he co-directed the first movie with David Leitch) returns, working from a script by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. Master cinematographer Dan Laustsen (most recently nominated for an Oscar for his work on Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley”), who has also been with the franchise since the first sequel, is also back.

Perhaps the most intriguing element of the trailer, besides the globetrotting, is the repeated mention of John Wick’s imminent demise. Could this be the last entry in the franchise? Or will he be back to kill again? (Certainly Reeves being spotted on the set of the in-universe spin-off “Ballerina” suggests that he still has some fight left in him.) If this is indeed the last mainline “John Wick” movie, they certainly look to be going out in a blaze of glory (also bullets).
