Kenan Thompson will host the 2022 People’s Choice Awards, NBC and E! announced Wednesday. The ceremony will air on NBC and E! on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
“I’m beyond excited to host the People’s Choice Awards again this year and celebrate the incredible talent and fans that this show unites,” Thompson said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to be nominated — shoutout to the fans and congrats to all the nominees. Get ready for round two!!”
In addition to hosting, Thompson will also be in competition. He was nominated in the comedy TV star category for “Saturday Night Live,” where he, now in his 20th season, is the longest-running cast member in the show’s history. He also has been nominated for six Emmys, of which he won one in 2018, for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for “Come Back, Barack,” a song he wrote for “SNL.” Just this past September, Thompson hosted the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
“Last year, Kenan brought an irreplaceable energy to the ‘People’s Choice Awards.’ His enthusiasm and passion for pop culture and the fans was palpable and translated in the room and on-screen,” Cassandra Tryon, SVP, Entertainment Live Events, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement. “We can’t wait to welcome Kenan back and see what he has up his sleeve for this year’s show.”
Prior to the awards ceremony, E! will also host a red carpet special, “Live from E!: The 2022 People’s Choice Awards,” at 7 p.m. ET/PT. Both shows are produced by Den of Thieves, with executive producers Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager and Barb Bialkowski.
