Kerry Washington Joined High School Singing Group Because Gwyneth Paltrow Was President (Video)

The “Scandal” star explains how she followed in the Goop founder’s footsteps on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live”

A teenage Kerry Washington was a Gwyneth Paltrow groupie.

The “Scandal” star appeared on Thursday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC and revealed that she followed in the actress and Goop founder’s footsteps into a nine-girl a capella group called Triple Trio.

“When I was in junior high school, there was this really amazing senior named Gwyneth Paltrow and she was president of Triple Trio,” she told Kimmel. “So, I wanted to be the president of Triple Trio.”

Although the two would never sing together, Washington — the go-getter that she is — would later become the co-president of Triple Trio as well.

The two-time Emmy nominee also expounded upon the benefits of being a member of an a capella group, including embarrassing one’s boyfriend.
