Kyle MacLachlan Joins J.J. Abrams’ ‘Believe’ Pilot for NBC

"Twin Peaks" actor will play mysterious billionaire

"Twin Peaks" star Kyle MacLachlan, fresh from playing the mayor on "Portlandia," has found a new offbeat role on J.J. Abrams' NBC drama pilot "Believe.

The series — one of TheWrap's best bets to become a series next season — follows a young girl with emerging powers and a man sprung from prison to protect her.

MacLachlan will play Skouras, a mysterious billionaire with an even more mysterious agenda. He joins a cast that includes Johnny Sequoyah, Jake McLaughlin, Delroy Lindo, Sienna Guillory and Jamie Chung.

Abrams is producing with Bryan Burk, writer/director Alfonso Cuaron, and writer Mark Friedman.

MacLachlan's latest roles have included turns on CBS' "The Good Wife" and quickly canceled "Made in Jersey."

Though the short-lived "Twin Peaks" has been gone from the air for two decades, it influenced a wide range of shows, from Abrams and Burks' "Lost" on ABC to the upcoming "Wayward Pines," a Fox limited series from M. Night Shyamalan.
