Oscar favorites “La La Land,” “Moonlight” and “Manchester by the Sea” have been nominated as the best-edited films of 2016 for the 67th ACE Eddie Awards, the American Cinema Editors announced on Tuesday.

Those films were among the top feature-film nominees at a show that over the years has proven to be a reliable predictor of success in one of the most crucial Oscar categories.

“Moonlight” and “Manchester by the Sea” were joined in the Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) category by “Arrival,” “Hacksaw Ridge” and “Hell or High Water.”

In the Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy) category, the nominees were “La La Land,” “Deadpool,” “Hail, Caesar!,” “The Jungle Book” and “The Lobster.”

In the last five years, only two films, “Spotlight” and “American Hustle,” have received Oscar nominations for editing without first being nominated for ACE Eddie Awards. In the same time, more than two-thirds of the Oscar Best Picture nominees, including every winner except “Spotlight,” were also nominated by the cinema editors.

Nominations for animated films went to Disney’s “Zootopia” and “Moana” and Laika’s “Kubo and the Two Strings,” while the nominees in the documentary category were “13th,” “Amanda Knox,” “The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Year,” “O.J.: Made in America” and “Weiner.”

In the television categories, two episodes of “Veep” and one of “Silicon Valley” were nominated for half-hour series. In the one-hour series categories, the commercial-TV category included three episodes of “Better Call Saul” and one each of “Mr. Robot” and “This Is Us,” while the non-commercial category included single episodes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Crown” and “Westworld” and two episodes of “Stranger Things.”

Ballots will be mailed to ACE members, with final voting ending on January 17 and the 67th ACE Eddie Awards taking place on Friday, January 27.

At the show, J.J. Abrams will receive the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award.
