LAFF Offers Free Tickets to Academy Members

First-time program lets AMPAS voters choose from dramatic, documentary and international films

The Los Angeles Film Festival is offering free admission to Academy members at this year’s event, festival director Rebecca Yeldham revealed exclusively to theWrap.

Under the new program, which has been in the planning stages for more than a month, AMPAS members will be able to choose any three films from the dramatic and documentary competitions, or from the international films screening at the June 17-27 festival in downtown Los Angeles.

Academy members will receive two tickets for each of the three screenings, on a space-available basis.

Animal KingdomThe offer includes gala screenings for films such as David Michod’s”Animal Kingdom” (right), Percy and Felix Adlon’s “Mahler on the Couch,” and the Mexican anthology film “Revolucion.”

The Academy offer was made, says Yeldham, in an attempt to remind voters that although it’s early to be thinking about awards season, the LAFF feels that it has a slate of awards-worthy films.

“We’ve been working on this for a while, and we just locked it in,” says Yeldham, a film producer (“The Motorcycle Diaries,” “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” and the upcoming “On the Road”) who is serving as the festival director for the second year.

“I’m really thrilled about it. We want to do anything we can to get people to come in and experience the festival, because once they experience it they’ll be back.”

Tickets can be obtained at the festival ticket center in the Festival Village at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. The center is located on the rooftop event deck at the center’s west garage, on the corner of Olympic Blvd. and Chick Hearn Drive.
