Lamar Odom’s health continues to improve, his aunt said on Thursday.
“To our overwhelming delight, Lamar’s courageous improvement continues on the incline in Los Angeles,” JaNean Mercer told E! News. “He is beginning to gradually flourish both mentally and physically.
“His use of speech has increased and he’s more cognitively responsive. His medical team has executed an aggressive therapy regimen to aid in his progress,” she continued.
Odom was found unconscious Oct. 13 at the Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada, and was rushed to a hospital in Pahrump before being moved to the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. After awaking from his coma, the former Los Angeles Lakers player was relocated to Los Angeles on Monday.
Estranged wife Khloé Kardashian, who shared the title of a canceled reality series with Odom, has been by his side since he was admitted to the hospital. Court papers obtained by TheWrap on Wednesday revealed the couple have decided to call off their pending divorce and reconcile, despite Odom dropping $75,000 for the company of two women at the brothel.
“As a family, we will remain united in our love and devotion to Lamar’s health and well being,” his aunt added. “Again, that is our NUMBER ONE priority.”
In 911 calls placed on the day of the incident, brothel employees said that Odom had admitted to taking cocaine prior to arriving on Oct. 10, though it was unclear if that usage continued over the ensuing days. He also reportedly took “up to 10” herbal sexual enhancement supplements.
