Style maven and “What Not to Wear” host Stacy London is back with a new mission in TLC’s new reality series, “Love, Lust or Run.”
But this time, it’s about make-unders.
The show, which premieres on Friday, features women suffering major fashion mishaps who come to London for help in turning their over-the-top looks from overly dramatic to distinguished.
In TheWrap‘s exclusive sneak peek, London coaches Tanika, a woman who tries to cover up her self-esteem issues by flaunting her body in mesh tops and thigh-high boots.
“It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen the real Tanika,” London’s latest ward says as she takes off her makeup in front of the show’s cameras. “I’m not very comfortable with that. I just don’t want people to see me how I really am.”
Her look gets plenty of attention. But instead of inspiring catcalls on the street, Tanika wants to learn to dress more like a mom and make her 9-year-old daughter proud.
“If I don’t think I’m pretty, then other people won’t either,” Tanika says crying. “Half the time, even when I do have makeup on I don’t feel pretty. I don’t want my daughter to have the same mindset about looks as I do, but I know she does and I know it’s because she sees me.”
London then guides her through a transformative make-under, which dramatically changes her look and allows her to channel what she really wants from the outside world.
Each woman will have to strip off her hair extensions, wild clothes and
outrageous makeup to start from scratch.
The episode reaches a dramatic crescendo when London takes to the streets to ask strangers to rate the woman’s transformed style as “Love” “Lust” or “Run.”
“You look like a different person,” London encourages Tanika after she’s removed her makeup. But, when Tanika concedes that she doesn’t think she’s pretty, London gives her a hug.
