Mary-Louise Parker, John Leguizamo Named to Tony Awards Nominating Committee

Tony organizers announce the 50 theater professionals who will decide nominations for next year’s awards

Actors John Leguizamo, Cheyenne Jackson, Marsha Mason and Mary-Louise Parker and playwrights Rick Elice and Stephen Karam will be part of the 2014-2015 Tony Awards Nominating Committee, the American Theatre Wing announced on Wednesday.

The Nominating Committee is made up of 50 theater professionals who serve overlapping three-year terms. The members attend every Broadway production during the eligibility year, and meet on a specified date to select Tony nominees.

Winners are determined by a vote of American Theatre Wing members and other theater professionals, with more than 800 eligible voters.

Members named to the committee for the first time include actors Harvey Evans and Debra Monk, directors Susan Schulman and Jack Hofsiss, writer Patricia Marx, retired producer Barry Brown and Metropolitan Opera executive Paul Cremo.

Of the 50 members, 32 are men and 18 are women.

The Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
