Matthew McConaughey on Fallon: That Time He Filed a $35,000 Lawsuit Over Pimples (Video)

Long before “Dallas Buyers Club” star Matthew McConaughey was nominated for his first Golden Globe, he was voted “Most Handsome” in high school, but he revealed on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on Monday that the prestigious honor cost him $35,000.

“Winning this award cost my family some money, though,” the actor said. “Cut back three years before I got this award for ‘Most Handsome,’ I’m a teenager, I’m 15 years old. Oily skin, you got a few pimples and stuff. Well, my mom is peddling this stuff, the oil of mink.”

Long story short, putting oil on a young man’s oily face to pull out “his impurities” is counterproductive when it comes to acne treatment, so the future 2005 Sexiest Man Alive had to suffer through “full-blown acne.”

Fortunately, McConaughey eventually smartened up and saw a dermatologist, who told him just how stupid he was for using an oil-based product to treat zits caused by excess oil blocking his pores.

There was a bright side to this debacle, however, and McConaughey explained that his dad decided to file a $35,000 lawsuit for all of the pain and emotional distress he suffered while using the mink oil at the recommendation of his mother’s boss.

Unfortunately, lawsuits take time to go to court, and by the time he arrived for his deposition, he had already took the title of “Most Handsome” in his senior yearbook, and all the company had to do was flash the photo to the judge.

“I knew right then, we lost,” McConaughey said.

Enter Karma: Now he’s at the top of his acting game and is an Oscar favorite for his portrayal of real-life AIDS patient Ron Woodroof in “Dallas Buyers Club,” and makes his television debut this month on HBO opposite Woody Harrelson in “True Detective.”

When McConaughey wasn’t talking about his teenage pimple woes, or promoting his new detective drama, he faced off against supermodel Gisele Bündchen in a game of Flip Cup. See who won the common college drinking game in the video, below:
