The second season of Taylor Sheridan’s original drama series “Mayor of Kingstown” will debut Sunday, Jan. 15, exclusively on Paramount+, the streamer said Tuesday.
An accompanying teaser was released with the announcement, featuring series stars Jeremy Renner and Dianne Wiest, hinting at the aftermath of the prison riot from the first season’s finale. You can watch it above.
“The consequence of a riot is our new reality,” Renner’s Mike McLusky says as a montage of last season’s scenes featuring prison riots play. “All that remains is chaos.”
From co-creator and Academy Award nominee Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the incarceration is the only thriving business. The McLusky family holds influence in the industry, and the show chronicles their attempts to streamline the system and prevent the town’s social order from dissolving into chaos. Other themes addressed include systemic racism, corruption and inequality. The series also stars Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allan-Headley and Aidan Gillen.
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions, “Mayor of Kingstown” is executive produced by Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Dave Erickson, Regina Corrado and Stephen Kay.
The second season of “Mayor of Kingstown” is the latest addition to Sheridan’s growing slate on Paramount+, which includes “1883” the upcoming series “Tulsa King,” “1923,” “Bass Reeves,” “Lioness” and “Land Man.” Sheridan is also behind the avidly watched “Yellowstone,” which follows John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and his family as they struggle to maintain ownership of their ranch and land while exterior threats like Native Americans, land developers and more encroach.
The first season of “Mayor of Kingstown” is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+.
