Michael B. Jordan has signed on to voice the lead character of the upcoming Rooster Teeth series “gen:LOCK.”

The animated series takes place as Earth’s last free society, on the losing side of a global war, recruits a diverse team of young pilots to control the next generation of mecha — giant, weaponized robot bodies.

Jordan will voice Julian Chase, who leaves his life as a fighter pilot behind to become the first candidate for the program and finds his endurance — as well as his very identity — will be tested beyond anything he ever imagined.

The anime-style series, co-produced by Rooster Teeth Animation and Jordan’s Outlier Productions banner, will premiere exclusively on the company’s $5 per month SVOD service, available on Xbox One, Apple TV, iOS and Android.

“We are excited beyond belief to announce Michael B. Jordan as the voice of Julian Chase in gen:LOCK and welcome him to the Rooster Teeth community. Michael’s visionary career choices and commitment to meaningful entertainment, not to mention his love of anime, line up perfectly with what drives Rooster Teeth, and we’re thrilled for the opportunity to do some cool sci-fi storytelling together,” said Gray G. Haddock, “gen:LOCK” creator and head of Rooster Teeth Animation.

Jordan’s previous voice credits include a guest appearance on “The Boondocks” and DC’s direct-to-video release “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.” He most recently starred in HBO’s live-action adaptation of “Fahrenheit 451” alongside Michael Shannon and played the villainous Killmonger in Marvel’s “Black Panther.”
