Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy died after accidentally choking while hospitalized in Las Vegas, the Clark County coroner’s office revealed on Friday.

The death has been ruled an accidental choking incident, and came after the rapper reportedly choked on an egg while in the hospital due to complications with sickle cell anemia. He was 42 years old.

Just before his death in June, Prodigy was performing in Vegas at the “Art of Rap” tour along with Ghostface Killah, Onyx, KRS-One and Ice-T. He had been hospitalized for several days.

The rapper, born Albert Johnson, had battled sickle cell anemia for decades before his final hospital stay and it was previously thought that was the cause of his death.

As one-half of the legendary ’90s rap duo Mobb Deep, he rose from the Queensbridge housing projects with his partner Havoc, composed classic rhymes and even beefed with Tupac Shakur.
