‘Money Drop’ Contestants Undecided on Whether to Return

Gabe Okoye didn’t doubt right answer that cost him and his girlfriend $800,000

The couple who lost $800,000 on Fox's "Money Drop" with an answer that turned out to be right said Monday they haven't decided whether to return to the show.

Gabe Okoye and Brittany Mayti lost the money by correctly answering a question about whether the Sony Walkman, Macintosh Computer or Post-It notes were sold first in stories. They answered Post-It notes, which the show said was wrong — but which turned out to be right.

Fox admitted as much when bloggers blasted the show after the episode aired.

"Unfortunately, the information our research department originally obtained from 3M regarding when Post-it notes were first sold was incomplete," Fox said in a statement. "We feel it is only fair to give our contestants Gabe and Brittany another shot to play 'Million Dollar Money Drop.'"

But the couple said on "Good Morning America" that they hadn't decided whether to accept the offer.

"It's a very tough decision… it's hard to recreate the momentum we had," Okoye said.

The couple also talked about the process of coming to their answer on the show, which taped months ago and aired this month. Mayti thought Walkman was the correct answer and Okoye thought Post-It notes, and she agreed to go with his answer.

"I did know that I had the answer correct," Okoye said on "GMA." "I was actually very sure."

The show was too — and was wrong. The couple lost $800,000 of their $880,000 and went on to lose it all. They had planned to spend the money on their wedding.

Mayti said the loss helped put their relationship in perspective.

"We really came together and really knew how much we loved each other," Mayti said on "GMA," with Okoye at her side. "Because losing that much money and staying together is a big accomplishment."

She said the television audience didn't see the 15 minutes it took the show to get Okoye to continue competing after losing the $800,000.

Okoye said he confirmed with online research after the show that he had been right all along: the Post-It was sold before the Walkman. He said the couple had been through so much at that point that he didn't bring it up with his girlfriend.

"I wanted to bring it up to Brittany, but I was afraid because I didn't want to go through that," he said.
