‘Money Pit’ Adaptation, Mark Gordon Friends Comedy Ordered to Pilot by NBC

NBC has ordered two new comedy pilots: One is an adaptation of the Dreamworks movie, “The Money Pit,” the other called “Fifth Wheel” is a friendship comedy from Mark Gordon.

From Universal Television and Amblin TV, “The Money Pit” is inspired by the 1986 Dreamworks movie, which starred Tom Hanks and Shelley Long.

The project follows a newlywed couple as they navigate the challenges of modern romance while their house crumbles around them. It’s described as a humorous look at biting off more than you can chew.

The multi-camera project will be written and executive-produced by Justin Spitzer. Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank will serve as executive producers. “Fifth Wheel” will be executive produced by Gordon and Andrea Shay of the Mark Gordon Co. for ABC TV Studios.

The multicam comedy will be written by Heidi Niedermeyer and Elena Crevello.

Described as an ensemble comedy about a tight-knit group of friends, the show does center around a young woman who confronts her new reality after her last single friend gets engaged.

“Money Pit” and “Fifth Wheel” go into contention for series pickup alongside: Rob Lowe starrer “The Pro”; a Wil Calhoun odd couple comedy; “Mission Control,” an astronaut comedy from “Anchorman’s” Will Ferrell and “Parenthood’s” Jason Katims; “Love Is Relative” from “Roseanne” and “That ’70s Show” executive producer Tom Werner; “Mason Twins” from “Happy Endings” alum Casey Wilson and June Raphael; “A to Z” from Rashida Jones-Will McCormack’s production company, Le Train Train; and Kate Walsh-starrer “Bad Judge.”
