NBC Sports has agreed to move from NBC's headquarters ar 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City to Stamford, Conn., to take advantage of tax breaks, the Associated Press reports.
The agreement, which would bring hundreds of jobs to the city about 35 miles northeast of Manhattan, would be part of Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's economic development program, a state official told the AP.
NBC Sports did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday.
The move would add to Connecticut's reputation as a host for sports entertainment: It is already home to ESPN, the WWE and Versus, which is being rebranded as the NBC Sports Network.
The AP said Malloy negotiated to bring NBC Sports to Connecticut as part of his "First Five" initiative, designed to consolidate tax incentives to draw the first five businesses that will invest $25 million in the state and create at least 200 jobs over five years. He was elected governor last year after serving as Stamford's mayor.
