Cloaked in shadows, propelled by a score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and co-starring Tyler Perry, “Gone Girl” looks like a quintessential David Fincher thriller.
And that’s a very good thing.

Fox dropped a new trailer for Fincher’s adaptation of the best-selling Gillian Flynn novel, about a husband (a harried Ben Affleck) suspected of killing the wife (Rosamund Pike) who disappeared under very mysterious and suspect circumstances. Things don’t look all that promising for Affleck’s Nick Dunne, who has a track record of doing everything a murderous husband might do: Upping his wife’s life insurance policy, scaring her into writing terrified journal entries, and getting mad at Neil Patrick Harris.

The film, which will play at the New York Film Festival, hits theaters on October 3rd from Fox and New Regency.
