I’m a big fan of the New York Post covers, and their perfectly blunt coverlines. The coverline on this one is no different (despite its confusing proximity to this New York Observer article, which has roiled some women I know).
But the cover — featuring a decently Photoshopped, battered Tiger Woods, posing with his scorned wife Elin — is a tad too soon, considering no one has seen the world’s number one golfer or his injuries since the incident.
Sure, he cheated, but did Tiger deserve to be clubbed with a pitching wedge? (Don’t answer that.)
The cover does, however, highlight the double standard in public acceptance of a male victim of rumored domestic violence and a female one. Can you imagine the uproar if roles had been reversed in this case, Tiger’s wife had been the one with injuries, and the Post Photoshopped her?
