‘Night Shift’ Renewed for Season 2 by NBC

The medical drama is NBC’s most-watched summer show in 14 years

NBC has renewed summer drama “The Night Shift” for a second season, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

The network has ordered 14 episodes for the medical drama’s second season, six more episodes than Season 1.

“The Night Shift” has become a surprise hit for NBC this summer. At an average 6.9 million viewers, it’s the summer’s most-watched original scripted series on television and the highest-rated new scripted series among the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic.

It’s also currently the most-watched summer show from NBC in 14 years and the highest rated in the ad demo in eight years.

The drama’s cast includes Eoin Macken, Daniella Alonso, Robert Bailey Jr., Brendan Fehr, Jill Flint, Jeananne Goossen, JR Lemon and Ken Leung.

“The Night Shift” is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah (“Freaks and Geeks,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”) serve as executive producers and writers.
