Obit: Marilyn Chambers, Porn Star, Found Dead at 56

Marilyn Chambers, the Ivory Snow model who became a porn sensation, was found dead in her Southern California home April 12. She was 56.

Chambers was found unresponsive in her Canyon Country home at 8:15 p.m. Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter told the Los Angeles Times that the cause of death was under investigation but that foul play was not suspected. An autopsy is pending.

Born Marilyn Ann Briggs in Westport, Conn., Chambers caused an uproar when she starred in the 1972 X-rated film "Behind the Green Door" while she was still working for Ivory Snow. Chambers' role in the feature drove consumers into a buying frenzy of boxes of the detergent that featured her cherubic smile.

Chambers made 16 X-rated movies between 1972 and 1986 — a period considered a "golden age" in the pornography industry. In addition to 34 adult titles, she starred in David Cronenberg's 1977 horror film "Rabid."

Chambers also released a disco single titled "Benihana" in 1977.

She is survived by her daughter McKenna Marie Taylor.
