Update: 7:05 p.m. Tuesday: Fast Company has suspended its Apple News feed and temporarily shut down its website after a hacker gained access and posted racist and obscene messages.
“Fast Company’s Apple News account was hacked on Tuesday evening. Two obscene and racist push notifications were sent about a minute apart. The messages are vile and not in line with the content and ethos of Fast Company,” the company said on Twitter.
“We are investigating the situation and have suspended the feed & shutdown http://FastCompany.com until we are certain the situation has been resolved.”
Apple has also confirmed the hack, and the suspension of Fast Company’s feed.
Earlier Tuesday, Apple News users received a push notification with racist and obscene language from the independent business magazine’s account.
Twitter users by the score grabbed screenshots of the message, many tagging the @FastCompany account handle.
In a screenshot of the push alert obtained directly by TheWrap, the message can be seen with a racial slur and an obscene sexual reference, followed by “THRAX WAS HERE.” It appears the exact message was sent twice, a minute apart:
Fast Company was launched in 1995 and is still published semi-monthly in print. It is owned by Chicago billionaire and Morningstar founder Joseph Mansueto via his Mansueto Ventures.
