Oscar-Winner ‘New Tenants’ Heads Tribeca Shorts Lineup

Bookings include short directed by Kirsten Dunst, others featuring Anthony Hopkins, Sam Rockwell

“The New Tenants,” which recently won the Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short, is among the 47 short films that will be shown at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.

Joachim Back’s Oscar-wining black comedy (photo below) will be joined by shorts directed by Kirsten Dunst ("Bastard"), James Cromwell and Joshua Bell, and featuring performances by Anthony Hopkins, Harry Dean Stanton, Brian Geraghty, Mariska Hargitay, Sam Rockwell and Jesse Eisenberg, among others.

The New TenantsThe films were selected from almost 3,000 submissions, and include a TFF-record 21 world premieres. They will be shown in six different, thematically-linked programs.

Seven are documentaries, while the 10 films in the “Experimental Collisions” program are documentary/narrative hybrids.

The TFF will take place between April 21 and May 2 in lower Manhattan. The Tribeca Film Festival Virtual will also make a selection of films, including 15 shorts, available online to patrons who purchase a TFF Virtual premium pass.

Awards worth more than $15,000 will be given in the categories of Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short and Student Visionary Award. The 15 shorts available on TFF Virtual will be eligible for an additional $5,000 award from the festival’s chief sponsor, American Express.
