Owen Wilson has compared Donald Trump to another controversial character actor, Charlie Sheen, saying that as entertaining as the GOP presidential candidate is, it doesn’t seem realistic that Trump might win the election.
“You can’t help but get a kick out of him,” Wilson told The Daily Beast while promoting his latest film, “No Escape.”
“Here’s somebody who’s not following that script. It’s like when Charlie Sheen was doing that stuff — like, wow! He’s answering a question completely honestly, and in an entertaining way. You sort of feel he could be a character from ‘Network,'” he said, referring to the 1976 satirical film about a TV network with struggling with poor ratings.
While Wilson agreed that his crazy antics and honest statements make Trump one of the more entertaining candidates to follow, he isn’t too sure to what extent he should take the candidate seriously.
“You can’t honestly believe he really could be president, do you,” Wilson asked. “I have a hard time believing that … that still seems so far away. That doesn’t quite seem realistic to me. But talk to me in a few months. We’ll see.”
Wilson will star in “No Escape,” hitting theaters on Wednesday, Aug. 26. Lake Bell and Pierce Brosnan also star in the action film.
Other actors who have voiced their opinions about the GOP presidential candidate and real estate mogul include America Ferrera, Salma Hayek, Cher, Russell Simmons and Bette Midler.
