‘People Magazine Awards’ Coming to NBC

Dick Clark Productions to produce

NBC, People and Dick Clark Productions are collaborating on the two-hour special “The People Magazine Awards” in late 2014, they announced Wednesday.

The awards will recognize the year’s most influential celebrities and most talked-about people in pop culture with awards including the Biggest Phenomenon of 2014 and the year’s Most Popular Person. Awards in other categories include the Most Stylish Person, Funniest Person, Sexiest Woman of 2014 and more.

The show will also include performances and feature famous presenters — you know, like an awards show. Viewers will get to choose a fan-voted award.

DCP also produces the Golden Globes for NBC. Last year it won broadcast rights in a lawsuit brought by the awards’ presenters, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

“There is no better barometer of the cultural events and top personalities of the world than People magazine,” said Paul Telegdy, president of  alternative and late-night programming for NBC Entertainment.  “This awards show will bring to light all who have broken through the clutter to make their voices heard throughout the year.”

The deal was brokered by WME.
