Rare Nirvana Performance Released for ‘In Utero’ 20th Anniversary (Video)

Bad news, children of the grunge era: Nirvana’s “In Utero” album is 20 years old, which means you’re officially aging.

Now the good news: To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, MTV and VH1 are releasing rare performance footage, starting Wednesday.

The first footage, which is being unveiled via Artists.MTV and Artists.VH1, features Kurt Cobain and company performing the “In Utero” single “Heart-Shaped Box” at Seattle’s Pier 48 in December 1993. The performance was originally included in the MTV special “Nirvana: Live and Loud,” which aired on MTV on New Year’s Eve 1993, and will be released on DVD on Sept. 24.

Other upcoming footage that will be released by MTV and VH1 in the coming days will include a performance of “Rape Me,” and two never-before-seen rehearsals of “Radio Friendly Unit Shifter” and “Very Ape.”
