Ratings: Fox Edges Out CBS, Finishes First in Key Demo

If numbers hold, “Survivor” will beat “Idol” in 18-49 and total viewers during the common hour for first time ever

Fox topped CBS on Wednesday to finish first in ratings, though the two networks swapped places in viewership.

Should the preliminary numbers hold up, “Survivor” will have beaten “American Idol” in the key demo and in audience size in their common hour for the first time ever. That said, CBS had preemptions and delays due to ACC and SEC basketball in the 8 p.m. hour; ratings for CBS are tentative and subject to change.

Fox was first in ratings with a 2.4 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in viewers with an average of 10.1 million. “Idol,” which began at 8 p.m., was the only show on the network’s schedule.
