Ratings: NBC Tops With Fireworks as Rivals Run Repeats

On night of repeats and low ratings, NBC wins by lighting up the skies

On a low-rated Fourth of July when its rivals ran repeats, NBC won the night by airing fireworks, according to preliminary numbers.

"Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular," which aired throughout primetime, scored a 1.4 rating/7 share in the key 18-49 demographic and 6.6 million total viewers. That made NBC tops in both demo ratings and total viewers.

Ratings for Univision and Telemundo were not immediately available, but may shake up the (not so exciting) ratings race.

The Fourth is traditionally a very dead night for TV as people — shock of shocks — tend to leave their homes to watch the entertainment in the sky. So the other broadcast networks aired reruns.

CBS was second in ratings and total viewers with a .8/4 rating and 4.3 million.

Fox was third in ratings with a .6/3 and fourth in viewers with 1.8 million.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a .4/2 and third in viewers with 2.2 million.

The CW was fifth in ratings with .2/1 and fifth in total viewers with 547,000.
