On March 19, 2000, “The Simpsons” aired an episode called “Bart to the Future,” which found Lisa sitting in the Oval Office as the new Commander-in-Chief, having succeeded one President Trump.
And she has quite a mess on her hands.
“We’re broke,” one of her advisers tells her. The policies of the previous administration left the nation with “a generation of ultra-strong super criminals” who play midnight basketball and don’t sleep.
In creating its dystopian nightmare, the show irked many viewers at the time when it landed on Trump as maybe the most off-the-charts presidential possibility.
The result is that there’s no money for books — because the U.S. has “borrowed from every country in the world.” D’oh!
