Robert Redford won’t just be hosting and shaking hands at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. He has a film on the program too, and boy does it look creepy.
“The Discovery,” which will be released on Netflix this spring, stars Redford as a doctor who makes the biggest scientific discovery of all time: empirical proof that the afterlife is real. After his discovery, suicide rates around the world spike as people kill themselves to reach the world beyond. “The Discovery” explores the relationship between a couple (played by Jason Segel and Rooney Mara) dealing with their tragic pasts and this society-changing find.
Also, as the new trailer shows, there may be evil ghosts in the afterlife. That might cause some problems.
“The Discovery” also stars Riley Keough and Jesse Plemmons and is directed by Charlie McDowell and written by McDowell and Justin Lader (“The One I Love”). It is produced by Alex Orlovsky of A-LO Films and James D. Stern of Endgame Entertainment, and was co-financed by Endgame Entertainment and Protagonist Pictures. Executive Producers are Julie Goldstein, Lucas Smith, Mike Goodridge, Dimitra Tsingou, Hunter Gray, McDowell and co-producer Erika Hampson.
“The Discovery” premieres at Sundance next week and arrives on Netflix March 31. Watch the trailer above.
