Rose McGowan Says Trump Voters Are Victims of ‘Cult Brainwashing’ (Exclusive Video)

“If you’re doing something that does not benefit you, like voting against your interests or helping rapists rape, you have to be brainwashed into that position”

Rose McGowan says Trump voters and those women who were complicit in the alleged crimes of Harvey Weinstein and so many other men in Hollywood are victims of the same kind of “cult brainwashing.”

“People say, ‘Oh it’s so weird how you grew up in a cult,’ and I say, ‘ I think it’s really weird how you live in a cult,’ ” McGowan says in a preview of an upcoming interview. “Let’s take Trump voters. [That is a] cult, obviously. We all know that. Because it doesn’t benefit them, largely.”

McGowan’s comment came during an hourlong interview with trans activist Ashlee Marie Preston, debuting Friday on the queer streaming network Revry. The interview touches on topics including PTSD, the Russian bots she says are being used to damage her reputation, the 2016 presidential campaign and her relationship to the LGBT community.

McGowan also talked about those who have helped to enable sexual abuse against women in Hollywood and beyond at the hands of powerful men, explaining that for many people, complicity is conditioned behavior.

“Complicity is deeply engrained in being polite,” McGowan said. “Some people are just bad people. Some people are just bad humans. But if you’re doing something that does not benefit you, like voting against your interests or helping rapists rape, you have to be brainwashed into that position.”

The interview is McGowan’s first since canceling all appearances due to a public dispute with a trans woman.
