Ryan Gosling Appreciates Tom Hanks’ ‘La La Land’ Love (Exclusive Video)

Toronto 2016: ”It was so exciting that he talked about the film because we talked about Tom Hanks every day on set,“ actor tells TheWrap

Ryan Gosling and his “La La Land” director Damien Chazelle appreciate your love, Tom Hanks.

Visiting TheWrap’s interview studio at the Toronto Film Festival in September, Gosling and Chazelle touched on Hollywood’s resident mensch interrupting his own “Sully” press conference in Telluride to rave about “La La Land,” an original movie musical that also stars Emma Stone and John Legend.

“It was so exciting that he talked about the film because we talked about Tom Hanks every day on set,” Gosling said. “We were always referencing ‘That Thing You Do.'”

Hanks’ 1996 film about an American boy band that achieves a Beatles-level of fame was a touchstone because, “as a drummer, it’s a very important movie to me. There’s not many movies about drummers,” Chazelle said.

Chazelle directed the critically acclaimed “Whiplash,” about a student drummer (Miles Teller) tortured by his mentor (J.K. Simmons).
