Sean Spicer Agrees With Fox News Anchor That His ‘DWTS’ Performance ‘Really Wasn’t That Bad’

“I wish you were a judge,” former White House press secretary tells Martha MacCallum in wake of his colorful “Dancing With the Stars” performance

After stunning viewers with a neon-green ensemble and a routine set to the Spice Girls during his first-ever appearance on “Dancing With the Stars,” Sean Spicer appeared on Fox News to address the reactions.

Telling host Martha MacCallum he was “more comfortable” to be back in a blue shirt for the segment, he said, “I went into this, Martha, saying I was going to have fun, get out of my element.”

That is objectively true. “I look forward to having some fun. And if people are looking for news, I suggest they tune into a news program,” Spicer said after the initial backlash that followed his casting announcement in August.

“I had a blast,” he continued, “and you know what, say, like playing the bongos to the Spice Girls with a lime green shirt that’s cut down the chest are four things that I never thought I would ever do in my life.”

Again, that tracks. In a statement to TheWrap Tuesday, a representative for Spicer used almost identical phrasing: “Sean had a blast, and if you’re going to go on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ you might as well do it in neon green, playing the bongos and dancing the salsa to the Spice Girls.”

Here’s the subjective part, courtesy of MacCallum, who slowed down the video a little for viewers:

“It really wasn’t that bad!” she said. “That’s my assessment. I’m not one of the ‘Dancing With the Stars’ judges.”

“Thank you,” Spicer responded. “I wish you were a judge.”

He went on to say he agreed that he improved significantly from where he started as a dancer to his performance Monday night, attributing most of that to his partner, Lindsay Arnold.
