Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Mental Health Struggles in ‘My Mind and Me’ Trailer: ‘I Am Grateful to Be Alive’ (Video)

The documentary trailer also gives a sneak peek at an unreleased song from the pop singer

Selena Gomez gets candid about her mental health in the trailer for her upcoming Apple TV+ documentary, “My Mind & Me.”

The trailer, released Monday and embedded above, begins with a monologue. Gomez is talking to herself, saying: “Just be who you are, Selena. No one cares about what you’re doing. It’s about who I am. Being OK with where I am. I am grateful to be alive.”

Following her public diagnoses with lupus, depression and anxiety, she wonders: “How do I learn how to breathe my own breath again?”

Set to the track of an emotional, unreleased song, the rest of the trailer shows Gomez going on a journey of self discovery as she learns to love herself through her struggles and realize that she’s “still here to use whatever I have to help someone else.”

The unreleased song appears to coincide with the documentary, as the lyrics include: “My mind and me/ We don’t get along sometimes/ Gets hard to breathe/ But I wouldn’t change my life/ If somebody sees me like this/ Then they won’t feel alone now/ My mind and me.”

“Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me” is directed by Alek Keshishian, who made his directorial debut with “Madonna: Truth or Dare.”

The synopsis is as follows: “After years in the limelight, Selena Gomez achieves unimaginable stardom. But just as she reaches a new peak, an unexpected turn pulls her into darkness. This uniquely raw and intimate documentary spans her six-year journey into a new light.”

As a recording artist, Gomez has sold more than 210 million singles worldwide and amassed over 45 billion global streams of her music. This year, she received a Grammy nomination for her first all-Spanish EP and an Emmy nomination as a producer on the critically acclaimed series “Only Murders in the Building,” in which she stars opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short.

The doc is produced by Lighthouse Management + Media and Interscope Films. It’s their second project for Apple following their collaboration on “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry.”

“My Mind & Me” streams on Apple TV+ on Nov. 4.
