Sen. Maria Cantwell reps hard for her constituents. And she also reps hard for Seattle hip-hop, such as it is: The Washington Democrat managed to work in a reference to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ 2012 album “The Heist” as she critiqued House Republicans’ alternative to Obamacare.

(Why Macklemore? I honestly don’t know. How many rappers can you name from Washington state?)

“For the first time you will be putting Medicaid under a formula that will reduce the amount of people covered in the United States of America and put 14 million people, according to CBO, at a loss of Medicaid coverage,” Cantwell said in comments to the news media on Tuesday. “This is not a smart policy and will cost-shift to the states to pick up the money that the federal government is no longer covering.”

Then she moved on to the mic-drop moment. (Kids: Dropping the mic was a thing rappers did several years ago, when “The Heist” came out.)

“I wish I could get a famous rapper from Seattle here, Mr. Macklemore,” said Cantwell. “Because this truly is a heist.”

First: Why does everyone always leave out Ryan Lewis?

Second: If you could make a Seattle rapper materialize, wouldn’t you choose Sir Mix-a-Lot? There has to be a “Baby Got Back” joke somewhere. (“Baby Got Black Lung Disease?” I don’t know, I’m not a senator.)
