Seth Meyers Clowns Trump for Delivering Weird Political Speech to Kids at Easter Egg Roll (Video)

“I’m shocked the children didn’t start booing,” Meyers joked on Monday’s “Late Night”

“Late Night with Seth Meyers” finally returned from hiatus Monday night, and it turns out he was right about the comment he made on his show before the break: nobody cares about Donald Trump replacing H.R. McMaster with John Bolton as his national security adviser right now.

Instead, Meyers had plenty of material for his Monday night “A Closer Look” segment from Trump’s strange behavior at Monday’s Easter Egg Roll at the White House.

“Yesterday was Easter. The holiest day of the Christian calendar. So Trump woke up bright and early and tweeted to his followers, ‘HAPPY EASTER.’ And all was right with the world. For 90 minutes,” Meyers said. “And then Trump started raving about caravans of immigrants.”

Meyers then discussed Trump’s anti-immigrant tweets from Sunday morning where he complained about Border Patrol agents being hamstrung by liberal laws and the standard rambling about DACA and the wall.

“Ah, yes, who could forget how Christ rose on the third day and said unto his followers, ‘We got to do something about all these Mexicans,’” Meyers joked. “Not that I’m surprised Trump doesn’t embrace the spirit of Easter. I bet every kid who found an egg on the White House lawn is getting a bill within the next week.”

Then Meyers got to the Easter festivities at the White House — which took place on Monday morning — in which he addressed the children — yes, children — with a speech about the economy and military funding.

“The weirdest part came when Trump started bragging as he always does about his supposed accomplishments. Now, remember, this is to an audience of young children were just there to play games with eggs,” Meyers said, cueing up a clip in which Trump said the following:

“This is a special year. Our country is doing great. You look at the economy, you look at what’s happening. Nothing’s ever easy, but we have never had an economy like we have right now, and we’re going to make it bigger and better and stronger,” Trump said in the clip, the audience laughing awkwardly the longer his inane comments ran on. “Our military is now at a level, will soon be at a level, that it’s never been before. It’s — you see what’s happening. and you see what’s happening with funding. The funding of our military was so important. And so many military people are with us today. So just think of $700 billion because that’s all going into our military this year.”

“Ahh!” Meyers exclaimed after the clip ended. “What are you talking about? I’m shocked the children didn’t start booing. ‘Stop making us think about the military! We want eggs!’”
