‘Sharknado’ Sequel Gets a Name

The sharks will hit the streets of New York in "Sharknado 2: The Second One"

The sequel to instant cult and social media hit, "Sharknado," will be named "Sharknado 2: The Second One," Syfy confirmed to TheWrap.

The next installment will take place in New York City and be produced by The Asylum, who produced the original. It will be released next year.

The name itself was actually crowd-sourced by the network and production company over Twitter. Over 5,000 submissions were counted.

Said Thomas Vitale, executive vice president, Programming and Original Movies, Syfy: “Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name 'Sharknado 2'."

He continued, "This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.”
