Sony has won an auction for the film rights to “Once Upon a One More Time,” an upcoming stage musical based around the music of Britney Spears.

Spears will produce the film with her manager, Larry Rudolph, and John Davis through his Davis Entertainment banner. The stage musical, which will premiere in Chicago this fall and arrive on Broadway in 2020, follows four fairy-tale princesses who are part of a book club and whose lives are changed forever when they come across a copy of “The Feminine Mystique,” the Betty Friedan book that sparked second-wave feminism in the 1960s.

The stage production will be directed by Kristin Hanggi (“Rock of Ages”) from an original book by Jon Hartmere. The film adaptation deal was brokered by CAA and was first reported by Deadline.
