“E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” is getting its first Blue-ray release, in honor of its 30th anniversary. Universal Studios will release the new edition of Steven Spielberg’s otherworldly classic in October, the company announced Wednesday.
The original hit theaters on June 11, 1982.
The new “E.T.” Blu-ray will include a digitally remastered version of the film that delivers six times the resolution of DVD, the company said, plus deleted scenes, footage from the set, a reunion with the cast and director and a discussion with composer John Williams, Spielberg’s musical collaborator on more than 20 film projects.
“When 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial' premiered in 1982, it captured the imaginations of people young, old and everyone in between in a way that was unparalleled in modern movie history,” Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, said in a statement. “A global cultural phenomenon — and the biggest box-office blockbuster of its day — 'E.T.' brought out the child in all of us.”

“E.T.’s” starring lineup included a then 7-year-old Drew Barrymore, Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote and Henry Thomas. The movie was nominated for nine Oscars, winning for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Sound and Best Music.
